WORK PACKAGE 1

Work package 1 - Project Management

Work package 1 aims at providing the internal project management and the overall coordination of activities, including: the overall
financial, technical and administrative coordination of the project; control of the project scheduling and progress; support
to decision-making; conflict and risk assessment, and generation of corrective actions, if and when needed; monitoring
of the performance, development and implementation of the work plan; liaison with the EC, notably for the submission
of deliverables and regular reports of progress and resource expenditure; and finally, ensuring smooth communication
within the partnership.

WORK PACKAGE 2

Work package 2 - Kernel Architecture and Development

Work package 2 aims to develop and implement a modular and pluggable architecture that interfaces with Cloud and Edge microservices. It will design and deliver an architectural blueprint, moving from the needs of the use-cases and considering the impact of technology stack and COTS on the architecture. It will also identify and document the functionality, dependencies, and non-functional requirements for each component. Finally, it will implement the GLACIATION kernel functions and integrate them with other components via the identified interfaces. The integration with devices, near and far clusters, clouds, and remote services will be done other work packages.

WORK PACKAGE 3

Work package 3 - AI-enabled Data Movement Engine

Work package 3 is in charge of developing the software and frameworks that will power the GLACIATION solution through the AI engine. Specifically, the work package will develop the embedded software used to control the core functions of GLACIATION. This work package will enable secure edge node connectivity technologies, resource management and service deployment, data life-cycle management, data storage across distributed pool of edge resources, data provenance, data sovereignty, data vocabularies, and microarchitecture-induced vulnerabilities. The AI-based engine will ensure workload placement based on optimising the energy efficiency of data operations across the distributed architecture while ensuring data privacy and security.

WORK PACKAGE 4

Work package 4 - Protection Techniques

Work package 4 will ensure the security of GLACIATION platform. The work package will investigate protection requirements and develop techniques for their satisfaction, with consideration of the requirements originating from the use cases. The approach will be based on a model for the representation of protection requirements, which will be integrated with the model supporting the evaluation of efficiency and energy consumption. Advanced privacy-enhancing technologies will also be developed to support collaborative computations and facilitate data-centric collaboration across companies. The goal is to protect sensitive data while enabling learning insights without sharing production or personal data in plaintext.

WORK PACKAGE 5

Work package 6 - Energy management techniques

Work package 5 aims to deliver software to monitor and measure power consumption within the GLACIATION platform and to provide data-centric data management schemes. Specifically, it consists of the development of a power and performance measurement framework which can gather metrics of all power consumption of various power meters throughout the GLACIATION platform and it will develop benchmarks as well as a dynamic power allocation scheme for optimal data placement according to the GLACIATION requirements and even data management strategies that allocate data to the more energy-efficient storage media.

WORK PACKAGE 6

Work package 6 - Edge-Core-Cloud Platform

Work package 6 will ensure the interoperability of the GLACIATION architecture. Specifically, it will lead the development of the distributed knowledge graph and the related microservices, the meta data services. Finally, it will ensure the users’ understanding of the distributed knowledge graph through the user interface and user experience.

WORK PACKAGE 7

Work package 7 - Validation and use cases

Work package 7 aims to establish the methodology to be applied during the evaluation of the GLACIATION outcomes, including a series of KPIs relevant to the use cases, the individual building blocks and the platform as a whole. Also, it will include the implementation of the GLACIATION highly heterogeneous, in terms of data characteristics and, hence, platform requirements, use cases as well as the evaluation results, which will constitute important input for the GLACIATION ecosystem refinements as well as exploitation potential.

WORK PACKAGE 8

Work package 8 - Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation

Work package 8 of the GLACIATION project focuses on maximizing the project's impact by communicating and disseminating its results to the scientific, industrial, and general public communities. Tasks 8.1 and 8.2 focus on the dissemination and communication of the project concept and developments, while Task 8.3 is devoted to the development of a detailed communication strategy. Task 8.4 is responsible for the IPR reporting, exploitation plan, and sustainability, and Task 8.5 will align the project results with existing and emerging standards from relevant standardisation bodies. During the first six months, a detailed dissemination plan will be elaborated and updated every twelve months. The communication strategy will focus on the scientific community, commercial stakeholders, and the public, and will include visual identity, a project website, press releases, and promotion materials. The market and applicability analysis will set up a "market watch" to keep the project in sync with the outside world, and the IPR and exploitation strategies will ensure the platform remains viable and sustainable after the project has run its course.
