GLACIATION’s Final Conference and Closing General Assembly

The GLACIATION Project (1 October 2022 – 30 September 2025) reached its final stage with two milestone events in Brussels: the Final Conference on 16 September 2025 and the 6th and last General Assembly on 17 September 2025. These events marked the conclusion of a three-year Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to advancing green, secure, and privacy-aware edge-to-cloud data operations.

Establishing the Foundations

The project began with the kick-off meeting in Rome, where consortium partners aligned work packages, defined technical requirements, and initiated the validation framework.

Early technical work addressed the metadata model required to support data-centric architectures, hardware optimisation, workload and data placement, and orchestration through swarm intelligence. These efforts provided the basis for the development and implementation of GLACIATION’s use cases and shaped the project’s research trajectory.

Final Conference: Presentation of Results

On 16 September 2025, the GLACIATION Final Conference was held in Brussels. The event presented technical outcomes, pilot activities, and discussions on the broader European context for sustainable and trustworthy data infrastructures.

The programme included:

  • An institutional perspective on the EU’s vision for sustainable and secure data infrastructures.
  • technical overview of GLACIATION’s innovations in privacy-aware, energy-efficient edge-to-cloud computing.
  • Research to practice insights, outlining lessons learned from the project’s implementation.
  • Use Case Stories addressing edge-decentralized data management, energy-efficient manufacturing, privacy-preserving analytics, and smart IoT for grid resilience.
  • A session on collaboration with Horizon Europe flagship projects TANGO and ENCRYPT, highlighting the role of cross-project synergies.

Final General Assembly: Project Closure

On 17 September 2025, the consortium convened for the 6th and final General Assembly. This meeting reviewed the project’s research contributions, technical performance, pilot outcomes, and alignment with European objectives on green and secure digital infrastructures.
